How it works
Our teachers work closely with students and families to create a meaningful learning experience that maximizes student learning and motivation. Parents and students have flexibility to work completely from home or they can have face-to-face instruction and peer socialization twice a week on our campus.
Using a curated blend of the best learning resources available, our teachers create student learning plans that usually span 3-4 weeks at a time. Students must be up to date on their assignments at the end of every week, although students can work ahead if they need increased flexibility.
Students have the option to work independently on their personalized assignments at any location and at any time, or they can come to our campus twice a week to work with teachers and peers during our collaborative learning days, workshops, lab hours, and other events (see schedule). Some of our students prefer to learn independently from home and only check-in with their teacher for feedback and new assignments, although many of our students take advantage of the rich learning experiences and social opportunities that we offer on our campus and through the neighborhood schools.
Students must check-in with their teacher to submit work and receive new assignments weekly or twice a month. Tustin Connect has open “lab hours” every week where students have the option to come in and work with peers and their teacher. Some students choose to work at the Tustin Connect classroom a couple days a week, while other students only attend the (mandatory) check-in with their teacher. Arrangements can also be made to have video chat or phone check-ins if students are unable to physically meet with their teacher. Student attendance is based on completed work, so it is essential that students complete all of their assigned work every week.
Upon administrative approval, students enrolled at Tustin Connect may also be enrolled at their neighborhood school of residence. Middle School students may enroll in 1-2 elective courses at their middle school of residence. Elementary students may also have dual enrollment and may be involved with activities such as PE, art, music, after school enrichment classes, and other special events at their neighborhood elementary school.
